WALTERS BACK ON TOP AT SUNSET SPEEDWAY:
Pacific Coast Fastrak DirtCar Series by Bill Poehler/ Saturday June 23, 2007 at Sunset Speedway- Banks, Oregon - Greg Walters knows his way through traffic.
The Banks, Oregon driver went from his fifth starting position to the lead in a short two-lap span and went on to collect his third main event win of the season in the Pacific Coast Fastrak DirtCar Series Saturday night at Sunset Speedway in Banks.
The 16-car main event saw the first six cars inverted after a representative from Pacific Tractor and Implement rolled a dice.
Young Branden Lindberg of Monroe, Washington led the first lap from the pole position, but Walters made his way quickly up to and around Lindberg by the time the field reached the first caution flag on lap 3. From there Walters, the defending series champion and current point leader, held off challenges from Scott Puncochar and Lindberg on the restarts to win the 40-lap race.
Lindberg fell back to fourth on the third lap, but worked his way back up and passed Puncochar to place second for his best result of the season. Puncochar, winner of the series' previous race at Banks, placed third with Steve Suckow advancing from his sixth starting position to fourth and Kevin "Pork Chop" Rogers picked up his first top five result of the year.
Bob Trout placed sixth with Hard Charger award winning Jesse Freeman in seventh after starting 12th, Jeff Biffle in eighth after starting on the outside pole position, John Ireland in ninth and Mark Thompson rounding out the top 10.
Steve Suckow set fast time with a lap of 14.68 seconds around the ¼-mile dirt oval with Walters second fast at 14.72 and Puncochar third at 14.932.
Suckow won the first six-lap heat race from the pole position with Lindberg in second, Jerry Schram in third, Rodgers in fourth and John Ireland rounding out the top five.
Walters won the second heat with Biffle in second followed by Ron Prevost, Malcolm Lindberg and Freeman.
Puncochar wont he third heat race with Robby Ireland, Trout, Jason Johnson and Jim Clair finishing the field.
Walters won the four-lap trophy dash, which was held after the main event.
